Wheatgrass Juice power punch

by Helene Dsouza on March 9, 2012

A wheatgrass obsession has fallen over our lives. I can’t stop staring at the little square greenery in front of our house, its so refreshing just to look at it and everyday it grows higher and stronger which is so fascinating! We planted the wheat seeds 4 days ago with tiny sprouts. You won’t believe how quick it grows, an inch per day could go into the Guinness world records! I wish I had a video cam, I could have made a little clip of its growing in a fast forward effect and you would have understood better what I mean. The main use of wheat grass is not only for our eyes but for our health too. The wheat grass is processed to a power punch Juice which is full of natural healing, cleansing properties. Wheatgrass juice is perfect for you and your family if you want to give your body some new live!

Nowadays the world is running faster then it used to, we are trapped in our daily habits. With time getting more and more scarce we have to come up with solutions to balance our health. Sounds simpler then it is, right? Even though I am sitting in a relaxed environment in Goa, I get to feel the pressure of our daily surviving and struggle. The proof? I am having pimples growing on my for head, as if I was a 16 year old again.

I had absolutely forgotten about wheatgrass! The smart person to remind me of its existence was my husband. We had planted it last year and it had grown to a remarkable size but we had to level up our new garden. You can plant wheat grass easily indoors too in a tray, nobody can give an excuse! They are easy to maintain, economical, hygienic, grow without trouble and are strong plants.

Wheatgrass juice

To start with your own homegrown wheatgrass, arrange for some seeds. Rinse them well and keep them in a bowl with water submerged and don’t forget to cover! Take them out after 12 hours, place them on a cloth, make a bundle with the seeds inside and pass it through a soft water stream, rinsing them shortly. Keep them aside again and do the rinsing again after 12 hours. By now you should see the wheats having tiny white sprouts. After the 3rd time rinsing in the cloth prepare a tray with healthy soil or prepare a corner of your garden for the planting. Toss the seeds gently on the mud and water with your hands gently. Add water every now and then, whenever you feel it is getting too dry. That’s all what you have to do, you will see quick results in no mans time.

If you grow it in a pot or tray see that some of the unsprouted wheatgrass doesn’t grow mold. Remove them in case because mold growth is carcinogenic and will only harm your body cells when taken in. When the time comes and your wheat grass has grown a few inches, you have to cut the plants with a clean sharp scissor. Its like cutting hair, it grows better when cut regularly.

Now you are wondering why you would want to take the trouble to grow wheat grass? What are the actual health benefits? For once it is a great detoxifier, cleaning the body of harmful toxins and for two its a blood builder, meaning that it boosts the haemoglobin production and rebuilds the blood stream. It further helps wounds to heal, helps the digestion and purifies the liver. Wheatgrass gives your body a good amount of Vitamin B12, Vitamin E, Phosphorus and Iron.

Wheatgrass juice

Wheatgrass juice needs to be taken in in small amounts on an empty stomach  early mornings. This is important since some people feel nauseating, especially when you drink it the first time. Once your body gets used to it you ll be fine! It tastes like fresh cut grass and some of us wont like the taste so for that reason I have modified the simple Wheatgrass juice to a tastier version, because I believe that everyone should start a Wheatgrass diet!

Good morning, Helene!
I wish I could warm up to wheatgrass in the morning but, I must say, I have tried it and it just doesn’t agree with me. I too was amazed at how quickly it grows. I should really try it again; taste changes you know:)

Thank you so much for sharing…

What a wonderful post, I haven’t seen wheatgrass seeds yet, now I want to plant them, they are so cute.  Where did you find them?  I have bought wheatgrass for juicing but growing my own would be fantastic.  Hope you have a wonderful weekend.  I love the look of your juice.

Suzi you just have to get wheat grains like the ones in my picture on top. They are easily available in india, I think so they should be too in the US.

I’ve heard really good things about wheatgrass but somehow haven’t tried it yet! You’ve inspired me to drink something green this weekend. :)

I have an acquaintance who used to buy big trays of wheatgrass for juicing and I was always tempted to try.  But if you can grow it yourself that is even better!  Thanks for the tips.

I’ve heard wheatgrass is very good for you.  Shops here that serve smoothies usually have a container or two of wheat grass growing on the counter and when someone orders a health drink they cut some off and throw it in the blender.  It definitely makes a very vibrant green drink, doesn’t it!  xx

Nice and strong isn’t it! I don’t really like the taste and I’m sure the apple juice would make it better.

yeah I agree the taste of wheatgrass alone is not that attractive but thats why apple juice smooths the flavoures of the health shot.

Beautiful green color.  I forgot what was the Japanese word for this drink… They sell powder form too.  I used to drink one  package a day.  I just mixed with water, but never mixing with apple juice.  That  sounds good. I wasn’t bothered by the taste, knowing that this is going to make me feel good. =P

“Fresh cut grass” – haha, I had to chuckle at this :D I’ve heard of wheat grass before, though never tried it. I’m very curious as to what it must be like – the colour is intense – perhaps I might find it rather strange though if it tastes like grass, lol :D

If you mix it with apple juice as I did here then it tastes rather lovely!

You know, I used to not really care for the taste of wheat grass. But the taste kinda grows (no pun intended) on you. At least for me it did. Some of the other comments sound delicious. In fact, once I’m done here, I’m off to the market to replenish my supply.
Great stuff. I’ll be back.

I am sure u get used to it. I realised too that I for once dont mind it that much while my husband dislikes it but still drinks it because of its health benefits. see u around soon! =)
